Mountain Adventures...or Misadventures perhaps Empty Mountain Adventures...or Misadventures perhaps

Sun Jan 21, 2018 4:59 pm
The mountains. Tall and majestic giants rooted in their spot, their eyes always watching over a world of white speckled here and there with black or some other splash of color that marked signs of life. A snow covered tree here, a fox dashing in the snow there, a large elk moving out into the open cautiously to see what it could discover in this desert of cold and white. The landscape was mysterious and blinding. Even more so when the sun was out, the rays glistening off those white crystals that had settled on the sleeping earth.

However, the creatures that called this place home didn’t seem to mind this as the few moved about going about their lives or hurrying from one burrow to the next to stay out of the winter’s cold grasp. The mountains were a peaceful and quiet place...or at least they were until a most unusual creature appeared on the scene. Unlike the landscape, the frozen, plant life, or the creatures that called this place home, this creature was not colored in whites or light browns used to hide and blend in with the scene. No this one was black in color, sticking out like some odd ink mark on white paper.

Despite sticking out like a sore thumb in all the whiteness, nothing was targeting the small creature that was hoping about in the snow as if it were playing with water. It would hop, spin, and hum as it tossed the snow up in the air in joy for a few moments before flopping down on its back to look at the blue and clear skies. Its tail would wag in contentment as it watched the clouds above drift by. Slowly, but surely it would become hypnotized by those clouds and began to zone out...

The mountains were a great place to live at, with a lot less of disturbance happening than pretty much anywhere else in Junction, aside from maybe the desert area, but they could sure be an annoyance of their own caliber at certain times. Such as this day, when the small dragon got rudely woken up by a decently sized snow slide that decided to land itself right where he was resting. You know what's definitely not fun? A bucketful of snow dropping itself on your entire being from the above, that's what. Ugh, so much for sleeping. Slightly irritated by the misfortune brought unto himself by the laws of nature, Pharex would float out of the cave area he had been in, shaking his tail slightly to get rid of the last specks of wet snow that was still trying to stick onto him. How cubersome.

Sighing to himself, the reddish brown dragon would make his way above the layers of snow, debating as to where to divert his attention now that he couldn't enjoy the temporary dreamland anymore. The situation was kind of calling for something to get his annoyance out on, which lo and behold, made itself appear quite effortlessly. Keeping himself at some distance from the black target he has spotted, Pharex would float closer to the ground to grab some of the snow and mush it together into a nice ball which he would then send floating over to the one dozing on the ground before smashing it down into its face.

Smoosh~?

The snow was nice. It was cold and uncomfortable at first, but the more one rested in it and let the body adjust that cold wetness, the more enjoyable it was to rest in it. Or at least that is what the little creature that currently rested in it thought. Unlike some who would fuss at such a thing or even wonder why on earth anyone would want to sleep in snow, the little creature was content as it continued to watch those clouds go by its eyes getting heavier and heavier as time passed by.

Just when that sleepiness hit a peak and the small creature was actually stretching and yawning as its mind was thinking about naps that is when it happened. Mid-yawn the little creature sensed something and opened an eye just in time to see a ball of snow coming right down on it! It tried to get out of the way, but it was much too deep in the snow.

With a strange squeak, the creature would get a face full of snow as for a few seconds it was disoriented from the impact. Disoriented or not the creature got up, shaking some of the snow off and eating some of it that got in its mouth as its eyes looked first to the skies to see what the heck had dropped that before those white orbs returned to earth and scanned the area looking for what could've possibly...Oh!

Its eyes would narrow as it spotted something odd and red that was low to the ground and as its little nose twitched trying to catch the scent, it could've sworn there was something oddly familiar about that redness. And if said redness was what it thought it was then perhaps it was said redness that gave it a face full of snow!

Hmph!

It would flip to all fours and began to move along the snow towards the redness in the distance. It would show that redness what happened when it threw snow at it. Yes. It. Would!

Success? It would seem so, or at least as far as he could see from the distance he was at. The small dragon would watch the scene with a hint of amusement for a moment, before deciding to float a couple feet higher instead of staying close to the ground. He didn't want to do the dumb thing and leave himself a super easy target for a counterattack, in case that's what was going to come. He certainly wouldn't rule out that possibility. At least in air he could dodge more easily, as well as potentially 'catch' whatever came at him, depending on its speed. He sure didn't want to be buried in more snow than necessary, and he had already gotten his fill not too long ago.
