Hot and Dry Empty Hot and Dry

Sun Mar 04, 2018 3:05 am
“Ooooh! Bright! Gold! Hot! Mama, are we in melting gold? Are we rich?” Malachi would ask as it flicked its tail and looked up at the tall and thin ink being with it with curious eyes. Shifting the pack of supplies on his back, the demon known as Devi would chuckle as he looked down at his creation and child.

“No we are not in melting gold. Nor are we rich. This place is called a desert. The gold sea is sand and the heat comes from the sun above that both gives light, but also danger.”

“Danger?”

“Yes. The sun is Queen here and if we are not careful she will take more than just ours heads.”

Malachi would flick its tail giving an =o face at the demon before looking up at the sun narrowing its eyes. “Well, I hope her Majesty doesn’t do that,” the little creature said worried.

“Do not worry. She may dangerous, but the desert has ways we can survive her burning embrace. We just have to be smart. Now come. We have some hunting to do.” The demon would say shifting the bag again before stepping forward into the sinking sands. The Desert Biodome was not a random pick. Devi had come out here for materials a project he had going on that was different than his usual research with the flesh and machines. He could’ve looked in other places for said materials for this new art idea, but he was searching for deadly things today...and well of all the places in the world the desert tended to have the best picks for this sort of hunting. He just hoped he could find something or maybe many things worthy of becoming his art. After all, he planned to sell this particular type of art, so it had to be the best.

The desert could easily be a harsh place for a lot of beings to traverse, or attempt to spend extended time in for whatever reasons. It definitely wasn't quite built for those who couldn't handle weather extremes in the slightest. To be frank about it, even Aldramel would label the area to be a bit of a hassle at times. Yes, his scaly body could handle less pleasant weather conditions quite well, yet that did not mean he preferred to go and expose himself to such just because. Nevertheless, he did take to a habit of scavenging and hunting around the desert once in a while. It was also arguably a good place for him to stretch out his muscles properly, with not many obstacles in his way of flight, unlike in the forest or any of the heavily populated areas of Junction.

Right now, the quite large, 6 feet tall bat creature was crouched upon a formation of rocks in a slightly more lively part of the desert, the piercing yellow eyes staring down at a nearby oblivious fat lizard thing that was digging about in the sand. A little spiny, with a hard leathery skin, but they made for good food out here. What were the chances that he'd find their buddies too if he observed it for a while...?

Devi would continue to walk along at a more or less casual pace as red eyes looked around the area for something interesting as Malachi observed the moment of the sand. They would continue to walk for a long while the sun beaming down on them both and causing a bit of ink to leak off of Devi as his body did its own form of sweating; however, the demon remained unbothered by the heat as he paused in his walking his eyes narrowing a bit as he scanned the landscape....and saw sand and more sand. Hmm. This could take a while unless he started digging for things or sinking underground. That was an option, but he'd prefer to use that as a last re-Oho!

Red eyes would narrow even more as he saw what looked like a rock formation in the distance and upon those rocks of gold there seemed to be something black and relatively large sitting there, its form and coloration odd to be just part of the rocks. What was that?

Just as he focused on the thing in the distance, Malachi would become still as it focused on something low to the ground as it crouched down on all fours and then after a while began to follow said thing it had found. Blinking Devi would look down at the small creature before looking to see what it was following. It was some odd pale snake thing swimming in the sands seeming oblivious to being followed. It was heading towards the rock formation and the thing. Huh. How interesting.

Letting the pair get ahead of him, Devi would trail behind making sure to be quiet to not disturb the hunt.

**

Within a few minutes, the rock formation ahead would be closer and the thing Devi saw earlier would be closer to. Indeed that was not a rock formation, but rather something large similar to a bat and dragon all at once. Now whether this was good or not the demon did not know, but he did not seem afraid as he came to halt a good distance but in plain sight away from said rocks. Staying in his spot, he would observe the scene.

The dragon back thing was on the rocks watching what was that? A lizard of some sort? Well he guessed it was. Anyway that little thing was digging about in the sand below oblivious to being watched or the fact that the snake thing was coming towards it. As the snake went under the sand completely Malachi froze and crouched down lower trying to see where the snake would come up. Waiting patiently, Malachi would wait for the ripple and then.... there!

The snake would launch itself at the lizard with jaws wide looking for a yummy lunch just at the same time Malachi bounded across the distance and then getting close leapt up to pounce the snake....

Devi on the other hand just watched the scene from his spot seeing how all this played out before doing anything.

Well...would you look at that? There were more people braving the heated sands of the deserts right now? It was almost hilarious how unfortunate that was at the moment, but sadly, Aldramel didn't own the desert, and thus couldn't control who stepped foot on it and when. Sometimes he really wished he could...just to make certain aspects of life less bothersome. Being on top of things had nice pros. The large bat creature would release a grumbly whirl of air out of his nose at the scene happening in front of him. Indeed, he could have interfered somehow, but to be honest, getting that one lizard for lunch was not his true goal. He had intended to observe it for a while in hopes of the little thing eventually leading him to its family or something. That'd be way more efficient than searching around the monotone sands for ages to seek out every individual lizard so he could build a bigger meal. Pfweh, guess he'd have to pick up something else later. Luckily for the trespassers, he wasn't hungry enough to want to bite their heads off for doing this.

Still, they did come and ruin things for him, so a slight payback was in order. Straightening himself up from his crouch, clawed legs would scrape against the rock surface as he hopped down onto a smaller set of rocks that surrounded the taller perch, which allowed him to reach the sandy ground with his tail. Which he would promptly stab into the sand dunes and swipe hard, sending a miniature sand tsunami towards the trio of lizard, snake and whatever that black spiky being was. Let's see how they all fancied a bit of a desert...dessert on top.
